At Angel Law, P.C., we understand that your health, wellbeing, and mobility are critical to your happiness, and if you had hip replacement surgery, you may require revision surgery. Numerous hip replacement manufacturers have faced suits pertaining to their metal hip replacements. The replacements that are intended to improve quality of life by reducing joint pain and increasing range of motion are instead impinging upon the health and wellbeing of recipients. In 2012, Stryker recalled their Rejuvenate and ABG-II hip implants citing a potential for “fretting and corrosion” which may cause tissue damage.

Thousands of individuals sought hip replacement surgery using the Stryker devices with the assurance from both Stryker and their surgeons that they would endure for decades. Instead, many are experiencing extreme pain, limited mobility, and the disintegration of nearby bone. Problems occur when the metal replacement components rubbed together, resulting in minute metallic particles entering the bloodstream and tissue. These foreign bodies build up in the tissue of the hip, and result in chronic inflammation. The resulting condition, metallosis, can result in the following symptoms:

  • Severe pain, even when not moving the joint
  • Swelling
  • Deterioration of the bone
  • Loosening of the implant, sometimes resulting in dislocation
  • Premature failure of the replacement joint/need for revision surgery
  • A collection of fluid in or near the joint area

Stryker offered an initial settlement of $300,000 to individuals who received the Stryker hip replacement and experienced revision surgery prior to November 3, 2014. The deadline to file as part of this settlement has passed, however you still have legal rights. Depending on the number of individuals who submit future claims, there may be a second settlement from Stryker. Even if there is not, we will still work to help you achieve the compensation you deserve.
